Project Description
Islands of external spring
After 45h and 245 nautical miles of sailing from Essaouira in Morocco we arrived on the deserted island of Graciosa, an island north of Lanzarote. From there we headed south and visited Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
Wayan from above at anchor in Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. The main reason we visited this city was to get a new anchor and chain and do some minor repairs. We had to adapt to the speed things are getting done in the Canarias and therefore we had a lot of time to cycle around on the island.
Next stop isla de Lobos. From here you can see Lanzarote in the north and Fuerteventura to the south.
In Fuerteventura we would only spend one night in the south of the island. From here we crossed to Gran Canaria. In Las Palmas, the capital, we were lucky to be able to anchor in the middle of the city in front of a small beach. After hiking for several hours we reached the Pico de las Nieves. Here there used to be ice all year long in some caves and this was used to conserve food. The ice no longer exists but the view over all Gran Canaria and to Teide on the neighbouring island still does.
Sailing further west we arrived on Tenerife where we would spend a few weeks. In Santa Cruz we doubled the crew from 2 to 4, my sister and a friend of hers attended us on our journey. Of course we could not resist to visit the highest point of Spain, Pico el Teide with 3717 meter over sea level.
Before the tradewinds toke us to Cabo Verde we used its power to fly our kites. Session in El Médano.
